Sketch and face detection

Sketch and face detection

open CV trial with face detection

I use the act of turning head over as an interaction. When the head is turned over, there is no face detection. So I can sense this act by seeing the number of faces being detected.
I combine it with my previous pixel by pixel sketch.

I think this interaction makes me feel the world is betraying me by constantly changing itself when my eyes are not supervising the world.

final proposal sketches

My final proposals are all for the first option, Art Commission: Weather. When I am thinking about the data that collected by the weather station, I become interested in wind. I want to do something in relation to wind.

the first idea “butterfly effect”

Actually the weather information of east village is a very small scope of weather detection. Why should I use this data instead of other very reliable dataset? Then I thought of the butterfly effect.
A butterfly effect is just a tiny wind made from a butterfly. To me, the east village’s wind data is just a butterfly. It cannot represent the wind of New York City. However, the impact of this tiny data would be meaningful. So I try to do something with the impact of wind.

This is an installation that is showing the chain reaction of a tiny wind. In the center, the triangle shape would rotate according to the wind direction. However, its movement would affect the strings that is tied next to it. Each string is tied with a small container. Some of the container contains black ink. The movement of the wind would cause the pendants to swing around and the strings might becoming tangle with each other. You can imagine them as aeolian bells. At some point, maybe the pendant with black ink is suffering from pertubance and the black ink would be split out of the container.

This is the ink split by the installation which represents the effect of this small wind.

I draw a top view image to show that which container might have black ink inside. The black dot is the container that has black ink inside. The white one is just container. The black ink containers are all far away from the center. In this way it would be a chain effect in radius.

I hope the chain reaction would be good and it needs more test. It has something to do with the density of the pendant, the length of the strings and the weight of the pendant.

the second idea "wind in balance"

When we hold a plastic bag in the air, we can see the shape of wind. I want to do an installation showing the shape of wind.
Also the wind in the air is of randomness.
I got inspiration from the MIT museum exhibition, Arthur Ganson.
I think that the way that it moves in space is clever, using a balancing lever to do such a complicate movement.

I decide to add tissue like fabric on one side of this lever which would show the shape of the wind and the other is a heavy sphere to keep the balance. The lever would rotate according to the wind direction. In this way, the wind would be visible and also floating in the air in a nice way.
Since the plane that the sphere is moving on would be curly, so sometimes the sphere would rise in the air and the wind is down. Sometimes the sphere would attach the surface and the wind is rising up. Also, I tend to make the fabric very light and long so that it can show the movement of wind like a ribbon dance.
